It’s published … so now what?

What do you get when you add four years of writing, editing, rewriting, editing, writing, rewriting and editing, add in a few spoonfuls of procrastination, wondering, doubting and delaying and finally a little dash of courage?

Well you get something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Shiri-ebook/dp/B00EBB4S6G/ref=tmm_kin_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1376560287&sr=8-2

Lord knows I forgot to include the zombies, wizards, mysteriously attractive vampires and (insert newest most popular trend here … I dunno  … middle-aged housewives meeting attractive, rich bachelors with a penchant for poorly written hardcore sado-masochistic bondage) but,  hey, there is always the obligatory sequel for that.

Now all I need to do is figure out how to get approximately 7,593, 821 people to buy it. Why 7,593,821 do you say? Well give or take a few hundred thousand that’s how many purchases I need to be able to afford this:

yacht

Current strategies include:

  1. Seven hundred thousand  daily tweets demanding that you “BUY MY BOOK”
  2. A totally awesome YouTube video involving an intelligent looking author advising you that if you like Game of Thrones you’ll love this.
  3. Two thousand three hundred and twenty one daily tweets informing you that for every copy of Shiri that is sold 50% of the profits will go to the starving orphan children of  Gondwanaland (may alter depending on most in vogue celebrity charity of the week)

Any additional marketing advice greatly appreciated.

lol a new post at last! Wel, I’ve bought Shiri and read it in a day and half – bloody awesome book, wish I could write like you. BUT please tell me you’re not going to take another FOUR YEARS to write the sequel!

Just got it on kindle looking forward to reading it. If it’s as funny as your blogposts you’re onto a winner! oh and you should get it up on goodreads!

  4. Cool boat. It’ll look fab on the Shannon! Hope Shiri does great for you 🙂

Oh nuts! I’ve been on vacation and missed your reveal! First, congratulations on getting your book published! That is so, damn awesome. I wish I had mine finished, but alas, I still have a few spoonfuls of procrastination to add to my mix. I’ve already have it on my list to read. In fact, it’s been on my list since you first posted the cover. The book sounds like an exciting read and I’m sure it will do well. And, I want a ride on that boat when you buy it. But you may need to aim a little higher than the selling price… 400,000 liters of fuel to top her off gets a little pricy, or so I’ve heard… (; Let me know if I can do a little post for you on my blog to pimp your new book. 😀

  6. You crack me up! I just published a book of poetry and I am wondering how I’m going to sell about 2000 copies just to feel as though I earned back all my investment in time, effort and initial costs. This post is so right on but also humorous. Thanks!

  7. I found you through Elise’s recent spotlight post and your book sounded so intriguing I went onto Amazon and took a little peek. Now I’m hooked and have it waiting on my Kindle. I love what I’ve read so far. Good luck working toward that boat!

  8. Elisa was right…you’re too funny! Okay, there’s no such thing as too funny. Best of luck with your book. I hope you get enough sales to buy your boat!

  9. Hi David .. I loved the premise of Shiri – and now have it twiddling its thumbs til I switch on my Kindle .. but I look forward to reading it .. sounds fascinating.

I was recently at the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology in London, which was fascinating and then two guides I met when I was visiting the Lindisfarne Gospels exhibition in Durham both had studied archaeology …strange co-incidences of life ..

The book sounds excellent .. and I have to say Elise looks mighty good in Egyptian garb .. thankfully the scarab has got rid of his dung …

Cheers and good luck with the future … I don’t think it’ll be dry and dusty somehow … full of Egyptian colour … Hilary

That’s cool … did you see the piece of the sphinx’s beard while you were there?? And yes she ain’t bad at the Cleopatra look!

  10. Popping over from Elise’s blog! Congrats on Shiri, from what everyone’s saying it sounds like you’ve written a winner!
